What do I need to get my instruction permit (temps)?
You must be at least 15 years old, enrolled in or have completed Driver’s Ed, pass the knowledge and vision tests, and have a parent/guardian sponsor your application. -
How many hours of classroom instruction are required?
Wisconsin requires 30 hours of classroom instruction (or an approved online equivalent). -
How many behind-the-wheel driving lessons are required?
Students must complete 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving and 6 hours of in-car observation with a licensed instructor. -
Can I take the classroom portion online?
Yes, Wisconsin DMV allows approved online Driver’s Ed programs, but behind-the-wheel instruction must be completed in person. -
How do I schedule my behind-the-wheel lessons?
Lessons are scheduled directly through our school. We recommend booking early since availability fills quickly. -
What is the difference between an instruction permit, a probationary license, and a regular license?

Instruction permit (temps): Allows you to drive with a qualified supervisor.

Probationary license: First license, valid for new drivers under 18 with certain restrictions.

Regular license: Standard driver’s license after the probationary period.

How long do I need to hold my instruction permit before getting a probationary license?
If under 18, you must hold your temps for at least 6 months, with no moving traffic violations in the last 6 months. -
What driving practice is required outside of lessons?
Students must log 30 hours of supervised driving practice with a parent/guardian (including at least 10 hours at night). -
Who can ride along during my behind-the-wheel lessons?
Only the instructor and other Driver’s Ed students scheduled for observation are allowed. Parents cannot ride along. -
Do I need to pass a road test to get my license?
Yes. Wisconsin requires a DMV road test to earn your probationary license (unless exempt under the Road Test Waiver Pilot, when applicable). -
What restrictions come with a probationary license?
During the first 9 months, you may only drive between 5 a.m. and midnight unless with a parent/guardian or driving to work/school. Passenger restrictions also apply. -
How much does Driver’s Education cost?
Prices vary depending on whether you take classroom, online, and behind-the-wheel instruction. Please contact us for current rates. -
What happens if I miss a class or lesson?
Missed classroom sessions must be made up. Missed behind-the-wheel lessons may require rescheduling and may include a fee.
